Design and Technology

The Design and Technology Door

grey door

You will learn through first hand experience using a range of materials such as wood, plastic, ingredients and textiles.  Your teacher will make sure your work is exciting and cross-curricular.  When planning your design you will be encouraged to discuss and share your ideas with your peers and adapt and modify these as you go along.  You will be supported in developing your technical competence when measuring and using tools.  You will be offered guidance to overcome barriers with areas for your design.  Through evaluation of your original plan you will be preparing yourself to begin your next D&T project with a deeper understanding enabling you to consider the skills and components you might choose.

Wherever possible, your activities will take place in the Outdoor Learning Area, where you will be able to use the natural environment to enhance your studies.

Your teacher will encourage you to take great pride in your work and completed projects will be celebrated both in class and assemblies then displayed for other children to admire.

By passing through this door you will have made your first steps to using and developing skills that will support you throughout your adult life.

If you would like to know more about the curriculum your child is following, please speak with your child’s class teacher who will be happy to give you further information and signpost you to useful websites.
